it’s about time

Timing your walk down the aisle requires practise and patience so you can get it just right.

If you want to make a splash with your big entrance on your wedding day here’s some tricks and tips to get you perfectly in time with the music.

Edit
Classical music in particular can be very lengthy. Chances are you only need between 1 – 2 minutes of music. Find a friend who handy with a computer and cut down your music so that you have only the bits you need.

Practise, Practise, Practise
The reason the Olympic Opening Ceremonies are so spectacular is because hours of preparation have been put it to make it just so. I’m not suggesting your feet should be rubbed raw because you’ve been putting in 6 hours straight but don’t expect to be able to just “get it right on the day”. Flukes happen but if you want perfection, you must first practise.

Know Your Tunes
Make sure your attendants have heard the music at least once. Arrange for them to get copies of your music so they can listen, and practise, at home.

Triggers
Print off lyrics (if applicable) and listen to your aisle music a couple of times. Be on the lookout for changes in the music or keywords that could act as triggers for your bridesmaids and flower girls. Give each attendant their specific cue. That way, even if one arrives a little early, or one a little late, you should still be making use of the music you have.

Beat of a Drum
It’s all good in rehearsal but on the actually day you are also dealing with nerves. If you can, pick music to walk down the aisle too that has a suitable walking tempo. That way you feet can be lead by the beat and you won’t end up too fast or too slow.

For Goodness Sake, Smile
Whatever happens, whatever order, whatever speed, just Smile. This is the happiest day of your life. Enjoy it.
