In news this morning it was announced that Michael Clarke had made the mad dash home to be with fiancé, Laura Bingle.
Laura is apparently under tremendous stress since the Brendan Fevola topless photos scandal and obviously under terrible financial strain since she found it necessary to sell the whole story to Woman’s Day for two hundred thousand dollars.
What’s interesting about the whole mess (and it IS incredibly messy) is the backlash Clarke has received for leaving the Australian Cricket Team mid New Zealand Tour to be by Laura’s side.
Australia Cricket fans are outraged and popular opinion seems to be that Laura is jeopardising Clarke’s career with all this scandal.
But I am in two minds as to what side to take.
Side A has me cheering Clarke as a “shining knight”. Isn’t the whole point of a committed relationship to stand by your partner no matter what? Isn’t that why you make your vows in the first place? Admittedly, Clarke and Bingle aren’t married yet, but surely this could be seen as a sign of his commitment to putting her first.
Side B has me judging Bingle for threatening Clarke’s career. Clarke is Vice Captain of the Australian Cricket Team and at a point in his game where he could potentially be future Captain. Team mates and former glory players have already criticised his decision to fly back to Sydney and Laura for affecting his game.
So my question, Is Clarke being a hero or a fool?
I know that my husband would be by my side in an instant if I needed him (and is constantly) but I try not to abuse that privilege and don’t call upon him in that way unless I absolutely need his strength and guidance.
When it comes down to it, I put him first.
So, I guess I have answered my own question. If I were Laura I would suck it up, buttercup and find a friend or family member to support me until he was home.
What would you do? Who’s in the right (if anyone) here? As always, you’re comments and thoughts are appreciated.
